Aeroclub Phoenix Brüggen

Segelfliegen im Kreis Viersen

BAGGC

Welcome

In July this 2008 gliding returned to Elmpt conducted as a partnership between the Brüggen Aero Club and the BA(G).

Whether you just want to do something different or you want to learn how fly at least one visit to the Gliding Centre has got to be on your lists of things to do whilst in this part of Germany.

Who can fly

The opportunity to fly is open to everyone who is serving military, their families, friends, visitors and civilians.

When do we Fly

Flying usually takes place during the weekends with the first flight normally at 11am and the flying list closing at about 4pm. obviously it is weather dependant and the availability instructors. Members normally arrive for 9am.

If you want to try it out the best thing to do is call Andy Gardiner on 0049 172600 4706 or via email at asgardiner [ät] gmail.com he will be able to advice you on which days we are flying.

How to get here

Flying is controlled from a yellow control vehicle located on the main runway. Access into camp is tightly controlled and non military personnel need to be collected from the main gate by a club member. We are located on the main airfield at Javelin Bks (formerly RAF Bruggen) just south of the Route 52 approaching the Dutch border from Germany (Google Maps).

What should I expect

On arrival you should ask for the duty pilot and let him/her know that you wish to fly. As soon as a slot becomes available you will be briefed on exactly what to do and what will happen. On busy days our crew bus will be with us that can offer protection from the elements. A pilot will take you to an aircraft and fit a parachute to you and seat you into the aircraft. All twin seater aircraft a fully dual controlled. Parachutes are required to be worn for legal, safety and practical reasons as the Glider seats are designed hold a person wearing a parachute. You will receive a short brief on what to expect as well as some safety information. Remember to have any loose items stowed away and cameras/camera phones etc secured on a wrist strap.

Flights should last about 10 min and could on soaring day’s last up to 20min for a first taste. Flights during instruction for those aspiring to become solo can be significantly longer on soaring days.

Cost

The cost an air experience or trial flight is:

Service person/UKBC, their spouse and dependants it is €20 a flight and one months club membership.

For civilian members regardless of nationality it is €30 a flight and one months club membership.

Thereafter launches are €3.50 each 6 months club membership is €90 service personnel and €360 per annum for civilian members.
Training to be a solo pilot
Being a solo pilot should be achievable by most people who can drive well. The minimum number of flights before going solo is 20 however the exact number varies greatly with the student ability and how often they fly. The minimum age for solo pilots is 16 however it may under German Aero Club rules
